Now, it’s been a little while since I’ve given you an update on Digital Radio here so I thought I better do a Craig David and Fill You In.
There’s heaps of literature that goes around about DAB+ in Australia and to be honest, it’s pretty confusing. I work in it and even I get confused so I’m gonna go purely top line here.

In the last quarter, over 100,000 Digital Radios were sold and in the last year, there has been around 500,000 sold. Now that’s just a stand alone Digital Radio and doesn’t include radios with iPhone docks etc, this is great success!

Some big news is that in 2012, there is going to be even more Digital Radios in cars!! Hoorahh!!

Now a few of the luxury cars (BMW, Audi,Volvo, VW, Fiat) have included Digital Radios but the Toyota Altara (It replaces the old and boring Camry) will be one of the first mid-range priced car to include a Digital Radio.

Look how mother effin sexy that is, hopefully Toyota sends me one… wink wink

All jokes aside though, we know that Ford in the UK will be having Digital Radios in their fleet as well so it’s only gonna be a matter of time before you hear my dulcet tones in your Ford Festiva.

Next up is the picture at the top of the page. This is a product that’s available pretty much everywhere in the world except Australia.
WHAT THE EFF!!!

Basically, what this does is it plugs in to your iPhone via it’s protective case. So you don’t even know you’ve got this add on.
Oh, I should mention, it’s also a portable battery too in case your phone gets low.

Look at how effin stylish this is!

Anyway, you download the Lingo App and then away you go, you can listen to Digital Radio with all the you-beaut features like the display of artwork, the now and next playing and the scrolling text along the bottom. Check out the UK website here

We did some digging around and found this in Hong Kong for about $90 which considering I have the exact same thing sans Digital Radio and it cost me $80 from JB, this is a pretty sweet deal.

Last but not least, here’s a Digital Radio we’re rating at the moment.

Now the beauty about this is that it has an Electronic Program Guide (EPG) so you know when your favourite shows are coming up AND you can record them via a SD card so say if you wanted to hear my one hour gardening show, you could just record it.
I have a Grundig at home and it’s a bad ass Digital Radio.

All you need to know is that I went to see Louis CK on Sunday night in Sydney and it was amazing. His profanity-laden anecdotes had the 2,200-strong audience in raptures for the ENTIRE show. From his first word to his last, I didn’t stop laughing. If you ever get a chance to see the great man in action, do yourself a favour and DON’T MISS OUT!

In other, semi-related news, below is a video that has just surfaced on the internets. It’s Louis CK honouring George Carlin.

In what is clearly an extremely emotional moment for him, CK talks about how Carlin helped drag him out of the comedy dumpsters and turn him into the stand-up that he is today.

The greatest All-Aussie music fesitval in Sydney – Homebake – is now home to a comedy stage!

The Sydney Comedy Festival has announced the inaugural Homebake Comedy stage, promising that it will feature a mixture of the best established Aussie comics, as well as some of the best emerging comedy talent.

Already announced are names such as Tim “Rosso” Ross, Daniel Townes and music duo Smart Casual – and they’re promising even more, so stay tuned.

Every year in Australia Dads are getting the same old boring presents, my old man always got a bottle of Brut 43 but these days, there’s options.

Pretty much every week there is a new Digital Radio coming out here so I thought it’d be time to do a Craig David and fill you in.

Here’s some favourites around the office.

 I stumbled across this Sony one and although it’s a bit exxy, I’m sure if you popped in the shop and had a listen, it’ll be great.

It’s $349 from Harvey Norman and is wall mountable.
It’s got all the wiz bang tricks like a USB input for your MP3s, CD player and your old school am/fm receivers.

If you want to test the waters of Digital Radio, there’s plenty of lower end receivers that do the job nicely. I have a cheaper one in my garage and it works a treat (I don’t want to dirty my expensive one) and by the looks of it, Harvey Norman have a few good ones on the cheaper scale.

This little one from Bush is perfect to get your Dad started in to the Digital Radio world.

Retailing at $58 you can’t complain with that for Dad.

Here’s another one we got in the office and this is a pretty cool one from Pure.

It’s got the Digital Radio, the iPod/iPhone dock, and Internet connectivity so you can stream from anywhere in the house with.
It’s also got one of the best internet radio options going around, just like a DAB+ receiver, it shows the name of the song and all the details about it.
One of my favourite features is Flow Technology and Flow Songs, which means you can buy a song as soon as you hear it.
